Three-year-old Luke is EASEL’s June rescue cat of the month.

Patsy is EASEL’s June rescue dog of the month.

Luke is a marvelous young male cat, about 3 years old. He is affectionate and a good scratch will go a long way towards winning Luke’s heart. Luke needs a special home. He was diagnosed with FIV and left at the shelter by his former owners. FIV stand for feline immunodeficiency virus. It is a lent virus, the same class of virus as HIV. FIV, which can live in many different tissues in cats, typically causes a weakening of the cat’s immune system. While this disease does not necessarily affect Luke’s life expectancy,he is more susceptible to illness than other cats and must be indoors only. FIV can be transmitted to other cats (not humans) via blood-to-blood contact. Luke would be best suited for a home without other cats or a home in which the other cats also have FIV.

Patsy had a rough start. This Staffie mix was brought to the Ewing shelter in bad condition, showing signs of significant neglect. We do not know much about Patsy’s history, as with many shelter stories, but we know she is safe now and being given lots of long overdue TLC. Patsy is a very friendly dog in spite of what she has gone through. She attends training each Saturday morning at the shelter and loves to go on walks with the weekday volunteers.
