The Piano Teachers Forum is scheduled to hold its monthly meeting Friday, Feb. 1 at 9:45 a.m., with coffee at 9:15 a.m. at Jacobs Music on Route 1 in Lawrence Township.

The program, presented by Meade Andrews, is The Alexander Technique: The Pianist’s Secret Weapon. For more than 100 years, the Alexander Technique has been a significant underpinning for the improved performance work of musicians, offering them a rich source of artistic expression by the recognition and release of unwanted, habitual patterns of thought and movement.

Andrews is an internationally recognized senior master teacher of the Alexander Technique. She teaches as guest artist in theatre at Rider University and presents workshops at Westminster Choir College. Former director of dance at American University, she continues to teach actors at the Studio Theatre in Washington, DC. She travels internationally introducing the Alexander Technique to a wide range of students, teachers, and professionals in the performing arts.

The Piano Teachers Forum is an organization of professional piano teachers who meet the first Friday morning of every month during the academic year to share their experience and ideas as well as to hear renowned speakers and clinicians. Some of its goals include informing the public about the benefits of studying music, not only for personal development, but also reducing the effects of aging on the brain by the development of dendrites, increasing concentration, and triggering memories.

Non-members are welcome for a $10 fee at the door.

Jacobs Music is located at 2540 Brunswick Pike in Lawrence. Phone: (609) 434-0222.
