Burlington County College, ranked one of the best colleges in the nation for military and veteran services, is set to honor its military students, faculty and staff with a veterans breakfast Nov. 13.
The breakfast is just one of ways BCC’s supports current servicemen, veterans and their families.
The college recently announced a new initiative with Burlington County’s Military and Veterans’ Services and Workforce Investment Board to streamline services for military and veterans in the county. This includes occasional one-stop information days, cross-training staff and sharing offices to provide greater convenience.
BCC is designing a new Veteran’s Center that will provide a supportive, quiet environment with a dedicated area that can be used by the Trenton VetCenter for counseling.
The center will be part of the state-funded Center for the Advancement of Science and Technology.
Last year, BCC implemented in-county tuition rates for military members and their dependents when they are deployed around the world, and a scholarship for civilian spouses and domestic partners.
That program is helping Rita Haley who is married to Tevin, an Airman First Class. Haley is working on a four-degree and a career in TV or radio, which wasn’t covered by the family’s federal military benefits.
“I’ll have more affordable credits toward my degree and I’ll have less to take at the four- year school,” said Haley who plans to transfer to Rutgers University or Rowan University in the spring semester.
Dedicating an entire office to military education, and continuing to implement new military-friendly policies consistently earn BCC the distinction of being one of the most military-friendly colleges in the nation by several top military publications including Military Advanced Magazine, G.I. Jobs and Military Times.
