WW’s New Politics Sounds Familiar

Reading Mr. Blelloch’s letter in the your September 23 edition I wonder whether his concept of the Republicans being the strong team going backwards while the Democrats are the weak team going forward is not a good metaphor for current national politics.

We appear to have a Republican Party singing the Tea Party lament, with the remaining Republican stalwarts acting as the chorus. The Tea Party appears to be intent on eviscerating social security, turning medicare into a benefits program for the health industry while repealing the recent health act that finally provides health insurance for all our citizens.

Their vision appears to be the America of the 19th century. On the other hand the Democrats seem ineffective in further advancing their progressive agenda. Perhaps society will regress to a simpler age. Republicans will travel in horse and buggy and watch television in the homes of Democratic friends. Unemployment will drop precipitously as companies gear up to meet the demand for buggy whips. Perhaps this could promote some bipartisanship.
