Why am I running for elected office for the first time? In a nutshell: 1. I am the mother of two teenage daughters, for whom I strive to be a role model; 2. I am a Girl Scout leader who teaches girls to stand up, be proud and be engaged; and, 3. I am tired of yelling at the TV and newspaper for decisions made by people who do not represent me.
My career and volunteer experiences over two decades have well prepared me to serve in a municipal leadership position. I am a licensed civil-environmental engineer, who worked for 10 years serving municipal and private industry clients solving wastewater, stormwater, air pollution, compliance and permitting issues. I am passionate about protecting our environment with practical, cost-effective solutions.
Then, I was a stay-at-home parent for five years, which gave me the opportunity to volunteer for many local organizations. I volunteered with the PTA, in the classroom and for book fairs. I re-founded the Princeton Area Alumni Association by creating and leading an executive committee of 18 volunteers who ran 50 events every year. For 10 years, I led two Girl Scout troops and mentored over 50 girls to become independent and strong, the future leaders of America.
My volunteer work led to a new career as an executive at a non-profit organization. I prepared budgets, managed staff, raised funds, organized events, authored grant proposals and coordinated public outreach.
I am well-qualified to move West Windsor forward in a fiscally responsible and an environmentally sustainable way. I will fight to keep our seniors in West Windsor and to protect our schools, parks, open space, farms and small businesses.
Together with Kamal Khanna as West Windsor Mayor and “YZ” Zhang as a fellow council member, I will work hard, do my best, and be a humble servant for the residents of West Windsor. Thank you, West Windsor residents, for opening your doors and your ears to me during these past few months.
