Congratulations to the Scholars

As the debate about whole child vs. decreased opportunity for academically advanced students rages in the our school district, I want to take the opportunity to congratulate the WW-P high schools for the achievements of their students in the 2016 National Merit Scholarship competition. 47 students from WW-P achieved semi-finalist status (31 from High School South and 16 from High School North). Overall about 250 students from Central Jersey high schools achieve this status, with the schools in this region having the following number of semi-finalists: J.P. Stevens (Edison): 28; Montgomery: 22; Princeton: 18; Bridgewater-Raritan: 16; Ridge (Bernards): 9; East Brunswick: 8; South Brunswick: 7.

The performance of the WW-P high schools puts them in the ballpark of competitive admission public high schools in NYC, such as Bronx High School of Science: 24 semi-finalists; and Hunter College High School: 62 semi-finalists. This is a phenomenal achievement for the WW-P community and is a testament to the talented student body. Well done and congratulations!
