Reynolds Middle School History Bowl team is preparing for its third year.

The team won regional championships at Lawrence Middle School in April; however logistics and limited funds prevented them from traveling to the national competition. This school year, the Reynolds team is determined to get to nationals in Atlanta, Ga.

Reynolds formed their first History Bowl team two years ago under the guidance of social studies teachers Amanda Askwith and Katherine Tiffany. The teachers were inspired by literature sent to the school by History Bowl creator and founder Dave Madden.

After further exploration into the national competition, the teachers discovered that other middle schools in the county were participating in this event.

In its infancy the History Bowl team was made up of students who volunteered to be on the team. Last school year social studies teachers choose students with a natural aptitude for history for the team.

Throughout the year, team members study history facts and engage in mock competitions to practice for the Jeopardy-style History Bowl tournaments.

During the regional championships, the Reynolds team made a comeback after an unsuccessful first round to win the competition.

Along with goals to make the national competition, the school district hopes to host a History Bowl meet at the middle school.
