A pavement preservation project will temporarily shut down lanes and ramps overnight on I-295 in Burlington and Mercer counties, according to New Jersey Department of Transportation officials.
Beginning at 8 p.m. on Aug. 10 until 6 a.m. the next morning, NJDOT’s contractor, Earle Asphalt Company, is scheduled to begin temporary lane closures on I-295 between Route 130 in Bordentown and Independence Avenue in Hamilton to mill and pave a four-mile stretch of road.
The I-295 southbound right lane and shoulder will be closed, as well as the northbound left lane. Two lanes will be maintained in each direction. All lanes will be fully reopened by 6 a.m. Saturday morning.
Work will continue nightly, Monday through Friday, with temporary lane closures between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. Later in the project, several ramps will be closed and detoured. NJDOT will provide information in advance of those closures. Motorists should exercise caution while driving near the work zone.
High Performance Thin Overlay, a pavement preservation product made of recycled asphalt materials, will be applied to the existing pavement that may be cracked or fatigued, to provide a smoother, safer driving experience, NJDOT officials said in a statement.
The application will improve ride quality, skid resistance and reduce noise, as well extend the lifetime of the pavement. The project is expected to be completed in the fall.
