Hamilton Area YMCA dance students present Scene from ‘The Wizard of Oz’

The Hamilton Area YMCA Dance Program presented its annual dance recital April 26.

Two-hundred dancers ages 2 1/2 to 14 performed in front of 750 guests at Robbinsville High School.

This year the recital theme was Scenes from the Wizard of Oz, which included dances from the films Wizard of Oz and Oz, the Great and Powerful and the musical Wicked.

The YMCA’s youngest dancers were Munchkins, Sunshine, Witches from the North, Not so Wicked Witches, Sunflowers, Tin Girls and China Dolls.

School-age dancers portrayed Ruby Slippers, Kansas, the Yellow Brick Road, Poppies, Snow, Lion Cubs, Hot Air Balloons, the Treasure Room, Flying Monkeys, and Entertainers.

The Hamilton Area YMCA Dance Company performed solos, duets and trios, as well as the Wizard of Oz foursome.

Registration for the 2014-2015 Dance Program is scheduled to begin June 28 at the JKR branch, 1315 Whitehorse-Mercerville Road, Hamilton.
