The Kiwanis Club of Trenton is set to sponsor The Great Egg Hunt on April 19.

The event is scheduled to begin 10 a.m. at the Katzenbach School for the Deaf, 320 Sullivan Way, West Trenton.

The first Kiwanis-sponsored Easter Egg Hunt is believed to be held in Cadwalader Park in the 1950s. It was an annual event until sometime in the 1970s, and was resurrected in 1997.

Since then, it has been scheduled every year, except for two occasions when it was cancelled for heavy rain.

The hunt is open to children age 10 and under. Children must be accompanied by an adult

The Easter Bunny is set to appear to begin the hunt at 10 a.m., when children will be invited to find eggs hidden in the front section of the Katzenbach campus.

Students from Trenton High School’s Science Mentors One-to-One and Rider University and the College of New Jersey Circle K members, along with Trenton Thunder’s mascot Boomer, will be on hand to help.

This is a rain or shine event.

UPDATE 4/15/14: This event has been cancelled.
