This year Village School participated in the Reader’s Digest National Word Power Grade-Level Challenge, which was brought to the school by Frances McDonough, the language arts specialist. Schools across the country are involved in this challenge, which shows that a well-developed command of language helps people enjoy reading more, express themselves with greater clarity, and realize the success that a strong vocabulary can promote.##M:[more]##

Before the special school event, each class participated in a classroom competition in which one classroom winner was selected after both written and oral challenges. The classroom champions then competed in the grade-level competition.

The fourth grade classroom champions included: Giovanni DiRusso, Safiya-Hana Belbina, Abhiishek Yedugondia, Jayant Gopalan, Joe Murphy, Samantha Cochrane, Devon Austin, Sowmya Kottapalli, Claire Towell, Matthew Winward, Claire Kartoz, David Yaffe-Bellany, Nabeel Peshimam, and Anjali Jothi.

The fifth grade classroom champions included: Will Davis, Mihira Khonda, Rebecca Rost, Yvonne Yu, Aaron Berger, Jessica Jeon, Adam Kercheval, Arnav Sood, Melinda Altamore, Cassidy Slater, Elizabeth Bellotti, Joey Dwyer, Garrett Weinberg, and Ayushi Vig.
