Once again the 1938 Martian’s landing at Grovers Mill was celebrated and recreated. Sarnoff Library presented two performances of a recreation of the original radio broadcast on October 28. “Powers From Pluto,” an updated performance art version, was presented on October 30 at Van Nest Park — at the monument.

Donna Clovis, a photographer and performance artist, wrote and directed the performance art piece. The simulated television broadcast used modern technologies of video, digital cameras, websites, E-mail, cell phone, and performance art.

“Like the original radio broadcast, we are fabricating an environment that is full not only of simulations but also of new intelligent technologies and forms of automation that wait on us and give us control over our surroundings,” says Clovis.
