Update: The Route 206 road closure has been postponed due to weather. NJDOT officials said they expect to reschedule the roadwork for next week, but they do not have an official date set.We will update the story as more information becomes available.

Route 206 will be shut down in both directions in Princeton this week due to a bridge closure, according to New Jersey Department of Transportation officials. The road will be detoured in both directions as crews continue work on a priority culvert replacement project.

NJDOT officials said the road closure will begin Thursday, Nov. 8 at approximately 9 a.m. and will continue through Wednesday, Nov. 14. Route 206 will be closed between Hillside Avenue and Arreton Road to excavate, demolish and replace a culvert over a branch of Stony Brook.

Last fall, a scheduled inspection found the 14-foot culvert, built more than 100 years ago, was in need of replacement. Temporary steel plates were installed and paved over until a new culvert could be manufactured and prepared for installation.

The $1.9 million state-funded culvert replacement project is replacing the culvert that had missing concrete, scour within the culvert, and was causing ponding on the roadway, according to NJDOT officials. The project in expected to be completed in spring 2019.

The following detours will be in place this week:
