Robbinsville resident Brendan Kelly won second place in The Hub City Sabre Youth Fencing Tournament on Dec. 15.

Kelly, who trains at the Fencing Club of Mercer County in Robbinsville, went 4-1 in the preliminary round, including a victory against the tournament’s winner.

In the final bout, Kelly fought back from a deficit to tie the score at 13-13 before losing the final 2 points.

Kelly’s coach and former Olympian, John Friedberg, praised his student’s performance at the tournament.

“Brendan fenced really well today and I am very happy with his development as he is always improving,” Friedberg said.

Kelly is one of many students who are currently training at the Fencing Club of Mercer County. The club offers classes for boys and girls, ages 6 and up.
