Robbinsville American Legion members donated $1,000 to local war veteran Tom Lee to help him compete in the Paralympics.

Lee plans to use the donation with travel and training expenses in preparation for qualifying races this spring for the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Following the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, Lee, who previously served in the Navy, reenlisted in the Army. He was deployed to Iraq.

In May of 2007, he suffered severe damage to his right leg when a roadside IED was detonated, killing two fellow soldiers.

Lee is now considered one of the elite athletes in the region and competes in triathlons all over the country.
