The fifth anniversary of David Bachner’s death will be commemorated at High School North’s baseball field, on Saturday, August 9, at 6 p.m. Bachner, a 2009 graduate of North, lived in Plainsboro. A left-handed pitcher, he was headed to Seton Hall on a full baseball scholarship, when he died suddenly from a cardiac condition on August 11, 2009.

The celebration is open to everyone — those who knew Bachner and those who did not. Attendees are invited to bring lawn chairs to sit and share stories about Bachner. Attire for the event is “Unhittable” shirts.

The pitcher’s mound will be decorated with the original decorations from past years, including the little wooden hearts with messages written by Bachner’s friends and family. The informal event will also include a lantern lighting, a balloon release, and refreshments.

The movement to have the field at North officially renamed David J. Bachner Field” has recently gained traction, and the board of education’s administration and facilities committee has planned two forums at High School North to discuss the issue: one on Tuesday, August 12, at 7 p.m., and one Monday, August 18, at noon.
