Registration open for summer field hockey umpiring course

Registration is now open for this summer’s field hockey umpiring course at Mercer County Community College. Participants will learn how to umpire field hockey or simply learn more about the game from the perspective of an umpire.

The course is open to coaches, parents and players ages 13 and up. The course will meet July 26, July 28 and August 1 from 6 to to 8:30 p.m. and July 30 from 9:30 a.m. to noon.

People have traveled as far away as Maryland and Ohio to take the course, which costs $72. The cost includes the NFHS rule book. At the middle school level, umpires make roughly $50 an hour.
