Fall 2011 brings a fun new class to children ages 2 to 3-and-a-half at Princeton Dance and Theatre Studio: “Dance with Me.”

Designed to engage these young dancers and their caregivers, “Dance with Me” will combine play and movement to acclimate small children to the concept of dance. “Kids – both girls and boys – then may go on to our Primary A-Level class,” said Director, Risa Kaplowitz,.

Princeton Dance and Theatre Studio continues to offer all the traditional classes for which it is known, including theatre dance, rhythm tap, lyrical jazz, Broadway jazz, hip hop, ballroom, flamenco and its signature ballet program. Kaplowitz reports Ballet for Boys has grown considerably, and that she sees many boys also enjoying hip hop.

“It’s now cool for boys to dance,” she added.

The variety of teachers at Princeton Dance and Theatre Studio always has been impressive. What’s also important is all ballet instructors are ABT National Training Curriculum™ certified. This means they’ve passed exams and have achieved levels of expertise not easy to attain.

“We’re proud of our students and teachers, but also are so very proud of our alums,” Kaplowitz explained. “Many of our dancers have been accepted to elite colleges that offer superb dance programs such as NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts.

Several have been offered full scholarships to the colleges to do so. Others have pursued the professional ballet track and have joined the studio companies of Orlando Ballet, Houston Ballet, Colorado Ballet, and Washington Ballet. One alumni, former Plainsboro resident, Drew Nelson, will be attending the Royal Ballet Academy in England on full scholarship.

Classes begin on Sept. 9, and this year, everyone may attend a trial class at no charge from Sept. 9 to Sept. 24. This is open to all ages and levels; all it takes is a call to schedule the free class.

“I’m also very proud of DanceVision, a not-for-profit company that produces many of the professional-level performances in which our students participate,” Kaplowitz said. “Our mission is to share our love and appreciation of dance through performances, school residencies and community dance festivals. This winter, we will do The Snow Queen.
