On Monday, May 4, it was announced to the faculty and staff that Princeton Day School has been designated a 2015 U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon School. In March, PDS became a 2015 New Jersey Green Ribbon School and on Earth Day the school received a federal designation. Only five other independent schools and 52 public schools across the country won the 2015 award.

The award honors sustainability leadership in reducing environmental impact, educating students on environmental issues and stewardship and creating a healthy campus for students, faculty and staff. A U.S. Green Ribbon School is a permanent destination that assumes a long term commitment.

Princeton Day School launched the sustainability initiative in 2007 and since then has become a national voice for this effort in schools. Some of the school’s highlights include a garden program that is fully integrated into the Lower School curriculum, energy reduction efforts all over campus, a Green Restaurant Association three-star designation for dining and catering services and a commitment to environmentally friendly construction and remodeling, building operation and grounds maintenance.
