Helen Rancan of West Windsor has recently been named as a Fellow with Leadership New Jersey, a not-for-profit organization of leaders of New Jersey’s major corporations and smaller businesses, educational institutions, governmental entities, and non-profit institutions. ##M:[more]##

Rancan is the president of the Friends of West Windsor Open Space, a Girl Scout troop leader, coach for two basketball teams, and a first-grade religion teacher.

She has also served on various West Windsor Township groups, including the Environmental Commission and the 9/11 Memorial. Her conceptual design for the 9/11 Memorial was constructed in the Ron Roger’s Arboretum.

A graduate of Rutgers University with a degree in chemical engineering, she has a master’s degree in environmental engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology. She manages surface and groundwater studies, focusing on threatened and endangered plants and wetland issues, with the New Jersey Geological Survey.

The program selects 50 leaders for a year-long program that explores key issues shaping the future of the state. As a fellow, Rancan will be challenged in 2008 to accept wider responsibilities to address topical state-wide issues. After the year of study, it is expected that the LNJ Fellows implement projects that will make New Jersey a better place in which to live and work.
