A Mercer County map circa 1860 is part of the Mapping Mercer! exhibition at the MCCC Gallery. The exhibition is open Jan. 23 through Feb. 14.

The Gallery at Mercer County Community College is set to open Mapping Mercer! Jan. 23.

The opening reception is set for 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the gallery, 1200 old Trenton Road, West Windsor.

The gallery said the exhibition is the kick off to the County of Mercer’s yearlong 175th anniversary celebration.

The exhibition is set to include historic and contemporary maps that trace the history of the county.

The gallery said the county’s hand-rendered Mater Plan will be on display for the first time since the early 1930s. Other maps include a Victorian bird’s eye view maps of Hightstown, Hopewell Borough and Trenton and the last official map of New Jersey before Mercer became a county in 1838.

The gallery is set to feature an interactive computer installation that will allow visitors first-hand experience of contemporary mapping techniques.

The gallery is set to host two lectures in conjunction with the exhibit.

Director of the County’s Planning Division Donna Lewis and Hopewell Township engineer Paul Pogorzelski are set to present Planning and Engineering Today Jan. 31 at 12 p.m.

Mapping New Jersey: An Evolving Landscape editor Maxine Lurie and cartographer Michael Siegel are set to discuss their book Feb. 13 at 12 p.m.
