Young West Windsor residents Brandon Kaplowitz, Brian Meersma, and Kimberly Meersma spent March 27 on Capitol Hill asking lawmakers to sign an appropriations bill to allocate money for gifted education. They were part of a nine-member delegation from the New Jersey Association of Gifted Children. Brandon, 12, is home-schooled with tutors organized by Talent Development in Skillman. Brian is a student at Princeton Friends School (The News, March 16, 2007). Kimberly is in the eighth grade at Grovers Mill School.
The week prior to spring recess is one of the busiest times of the year, and most lawmakers were in session and unable to meet directly with the New Jersey delegation. However, 13 appointments were attended including one with Christopher Hartmann, legislative director for Rush Holt.
