Police in Plainsboro will again kick off their Over the Limit, Under Arrest campaign aimed at cracking down on drunken driving, on Friday, August 21.

The campaign is running through Monday, September 7. Officers will be conducting saturation patrols and sobriety checkpoints, looking for motorists who may be driving while intoxicated, said a press release from the police department.

The goal of the program, part of national effort launched in 1999, is to help raise awareness “though high visibility enforcement and public education tools, including posters, banners, and mobile video display signs,” the release stated.

According to the Division of Highway Traffic Safety, drunk driving fatalities accounted for 32 percent of all traffic related deaths nationally in 2008. Last year in New Jersey, 152 people were killed as a result of alcohol-related crashes.
