The State Department of Transportation will host a public discussion on the traffic effects of the proposed relocation of the University Medical Center at Princeton to Route 1 North in Plainsboro on Monday, August 21, at 2 p.m. The meeting is open to the public, and will be held at the DOT headquarters at 1035 Parkway Avenue in Ewing.
The meeting was called for by Assemblyman Reed Gusciora, D-Princeton Borough, who would like to see the DOT conduct a feasibility study for the creation of a left-turn land for traffic turning from Harrison Street onto Route 1 North. The idea would make it easier for people to access the hospital at its proposed site in Plainsboro.
Said Gusciora: “The congestion at the Harrison Street intersection (with Route 1) during rush hour is already well known. and the addition of hospital traffic could cause major concerns for both the hospital itself and commuters.”
DOT Commissioner Kris Kolluri, a West Windsor resident, agreed to meet with the public and with stakeholders in the hospital “to examine whether there will indeed be traffic issues that need to be addressed.”
Mayors Shing-Fu Hsueh of West Windsor and Peter Cantu of Plainsboro both were recipients of a letter from Gusciora outlining reasons for the DOT meeting. It is not yet known whether either will attend.
