A month-long investigation into heroin distribution in Hamilton Township led to one arrest and the seizure of $23,000 worth of heroin and two handguns, Mercer County Prosecutor Janetta Marbrey announced this week.

David Maddox, 34, was arrested on Oct. 27 after an investigation by detectives with the Mercer County Narcotics Task Force. The bust was made with the assistance of the Drug Enforcement Administration and police from Ewing, Hamilton and Trenton.

Maddox was stopped around 8:30 p.m. on Nottingham Way, according to authorities.

Shortly after the traffic stop, members of the task force and the Hamilton Police Division SWAT team executed a search warrant at Maddox’s apartment on Klockner Road.

Prosecutors said a police K-9 named Indy indicated the presence of narcotics in multiple areas of the home.

Inside, investigators reportedly found approximately 118 grams of suspected heroin, a defaced Ruger LC9S semi-automatic handgun, a Smith & Wesson M&P semi-automatic handgun with a high-capacity magazine, and drug paraphernalia including a digital scale, heroin stamps and packaging materials.

Maddox faces multiple second-degree drug and weapons charges. The prosecutor’s office has filed a motion to detain him pending trial.

The heroin has an estimated street value of $23,000, officials said.

All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
