Lawrence Township is accepting applications for participation in its home improvement program for low and moderate income residents.

Eligible home improvements include roofing, windows, heating systems, insulation, plumbing or any other health, safety or code violations.

The program is structured as a forgivable loan, according to a statement from the township. There are no monthly payments and there is no interest. For single-family homes, if the owner remains in the home for 10 years, the loan will be forgiven.

Edibility is based on household size and annual income. A household’s gross annual income (meaning pretax income) cannot exceed Affordable Housing Regional Income Limits. For example, a four-person household can earn up to $79,368 and still be eligible for the program.

“Not only does the home improvement program help households make necessary repairs that they may not otherwise be able to afford, it also helps the township satisfy its affordable housing obligation,” Mayor Christopher Bobbitt said in a statement. “So by implementing this home improvement program, everybody wins.”

Those interested in applying should contact the township’s program consultant at (732) 892-4292.
