Township residents turned out for the 7th annual C.A.R.E Father’s Day Weekend Fishing Derby at West Town Center Lake.

Griffin David won the top overall award for the third straight year, with 66 fish caught. David also took first in the 13-21 age group.

Other winners include: Ethan Riley (1st in the 12 and Under age group), Alyson Michaels (2nd, 12U), Chase Wood (3rd, 12U), Ryan Chung (2nd, 13-21 age group), Ryan Fur (3rd, 13-21), Kevin Wood (1st, 22+ age group) and John Furyk (2nd, 22+).

The event was founded in 2012 by township business administrator Joy Tozzi, who explained to recreation director Joe Barker how special days fishing with her father inspired her to organize a technology-free, family bonding day for the town.

With Barker’s support, the Father’s Day Fishing Derby was launched, with the township municipal alliance and, later, CARE sponsoring the event as a way to spread awareness of drug and alcohol addiction.
