Sneha Deepak of West Windsor recently earned her Girl Scout Silver Award. Deepak, a member of Troop 70051, is an eighth grader at Community Middle School. For her Silver Award, she created an outdoor art program, “Imagination Takes Courage—Hands on Art” for children ages 5-10.

Much of the artwork done in her class was nature related, using objects from around the garden.

Deepak worked with Tara Miller, an environmental education coordinator at the Plainsboro Recreation and Cultural Center. The art program was held in the Children’s Garden, which is a part of the center. She presented the art program twice a week for eight weeks.

At the end of the program, an art exhibition was held.

“I taught the children the fundamentals of art, in a way that would be fun for them,” Deepak said. “They made caterpillars out of rocks, a fairy garden, an elf house on a tree and even created animals using bottle caps.”
