Pennington’s varsity golf team shot a total score of 320 on April 26 to capture the Mercer County Golf Championship.

James Bao, a junior from Nanjing, China, shot a 73 on the par-72 course at Mountain View Golf Course in Ewing to take medalist honors and help lead the Red Raiders to the title.

Charlie Kovalcik, a senior from Yardley, Pennsylvania., shot a 77, which was the second top score in the championship. Tyler De Pol, a junior from Scarsdale, New York., Phil Bancroft, a junior from New Hope, Pennsylvania, and August Beers, a junior from Pennington, rounded out Pennington’s championship team.

Bao finished runner-up in the competition in 2016. Hopewell Valley Central High School finished fourth with a team score of 343.

Pennington’s victory broke The Peddie School’s stranglehold on the title. Peddie had won the previous six MCTs.
