Eco-friendly food, art, yoga at 8th annual Green Fair

The Bordentown City Green Fair will return for the eighth straight year with more than 60 vendors and exhibits designed to educate and encourage people of all ages to adopts a more sustainable and eco-friendly lifestyle. The Green Fair, set for Saturday, June 10 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Carslake Community Center, is a free event sponsored by the Bordentown City Green Team and the Bordentown City Environmental Commission.This year’s event is centered on presenting ideas and useful sustainable lifestyle insights that can be incorporated into daily life, as well as raising awareness of environmental issues and demonstrating how consumers have the power to reduce their impact on earth through a variety of eco-friendly products and services. The event will feature food from local vendors, a free yoga class, a cooking demonstration led by Farmers Against Hunger, interactive displays, pieces by local artists and eco-friendly shopping, giveaways and prizes.The Green Fair will once again accept used bike donations, as well as clean, used plastic shopping bags that will be made into multi-use durable mats. Guests can also check out a Bordentown history tour based at the Guilder House, plus performances by Jeff Griesemer, the Williams Boy, Wendy Huber and Bob Lowden, Ian Camp and Denise McCormack, Lori Klugman and the Bordentown Parlor Pickers.The Bordentown City Environmental Commission is made up of volunteers, appointed by the mayor, who are residents of Bordentown City. The Bordentown City Green Team is an official sub-committee of the BCEC charged with implementing action items toward certification in the Sustainable Jersey program.Plenty of free parking will be available onsite, but guests are encouraged to walk or bike to the community center, located at 207 Crosswicks St. More information about the Bordentown City Green Fair or Green Team is online at bcec.us/the-green-team.
