Lindsay Bizenov, 14, of West Windsor, built a “buddy bench” and organized a food collection for for HomeFront—a nonprofit organization to help the homeless—as part of her Girl Scout Silver Award project.

Bizenov went into the project with the thought that everyone deserves to have a friend, and built the buddy bench to help ensure that no child is lonely.

“When another child sees someone on the bench, they know that that person is lonely and that they should go over and sit with them,” said a press release. “With HomeFront being very transient (as people get jobs, they move to homes), Lindsay wanted to help the kids make friends. She believes that friendship is very powerful and can change a person’s life.”

Bizenov conducted the food collection drive after being told by HomeFront officials that they need more food donations during the summer months because many people take vacations and aren’t around to make donations.
