The Lawrence Township Shade Tree Advisory Committee will conduct an Arbor Day ceremony on Friday, April 28 at noon at the front entrance of the Lawrence Municipal Building, 2207 Lawrenceville Road.

The Department of Public Works will plant a Norway Spruce to replace the previous tree which was lost in a wind storm this past winter.

Lawrence Mayor David Maffei said it will be a pleasure to celebrate the importance of trees as the township continues to preserve woods, specimen trees and the environment as a whole.

The township has recognized Arbor Day with tree related activities every year since 1996, and Lawrence is in its 21st year as a Tree City USA. Lawrence achieved the title by meeting four core standards of sound urban forestry management: maintaining a tree committee, having a community tree ordinance, spending at least $2 per capita on urban forestry and celebrating Arbor Day.

The Lawrence Township Shade Tree Advisory Committee was created by the council to provide advice on street tree matters. The committee meets the fourth Monday of each month.
