Margaret Nizolek has been selected as the New Jersey State Library’s new chief deputy state librarian and director of the State Library Information Center (SLIC).

Reporting to the state librarian, Nizolek will direct all aspects of SLIC, including the research library’s collection, services and a staff of more than 40. She will start in her new capacity immediately.

During her 39-year tenure at the State Library, Nizolek has developed an extensive, in-depth knowledge of the SLIC having worked in various positions of increasing responsibility. In her most recent role as the associate director of SLIC and head of reference services, she had oversight over all operations of reference services, staff management and major projects.

Under the direction of the state librarian, in her new role Nizolek will organize, plan and direct all aspects of SLIC operations, including managing special collections such as the law library and three state agency libraries. The SLIC also serves as the primary research liaison for Thomas Edison State University.

Nizolek began her career at the State Library as a reference librarian in 1977, having earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Rutgers University, and a master’s degree in library and information science from Rutgers University Graduate School of Library Science. She also holds a New Jersey Professional Librarian Certificate.
