On Tuesday, Feb. 17, Morven will present a talk called “Friend or Faux: Common Pitfalls and Misrepresentations in the World of Antique Samplers,” given by Amy Finkel of M. Finkel and Daughter in Philadelphia.

The talk will cover how to differentiate authentic and accurately represented samplers from those intentionally or unknowingly altered or misrepresented.

Many examples will be shown and compared and advice will be given on differentiating English and American samplers, an issue that impacts both rarity and value.

The talk will take place at 10 a.m. at The Present Day Club, located at 72 Stockton Street, across the street from Morven.

Admission is $25 per person and advanced registration is required.

This program is part of a Needlework Programming Series that Morven is presenting in conjunction with its current exhibition, “Hail Specimen of Female Art! New Jersey Schoolgirl Needlework, 1726-1860.” The exhibit is on view at Morven through March 29.
