June 29: Golf Classic Honors Former Cop

The ninth annual Keith J. Hillman Central Jersey Golf Classic to benefit Special Olympics New Jersey will be held on Monday, June 29, at Cranbury Golf Club, 49 Southfield Road, West Windsor. The event includes a reception, 9 and 18-hole golf tournaments, a cookout dinner, and awards. Register. $125 includes carts and greens fees.

Hillman, a lieutenant in the West Windsor Township Police Department, was 40 when he died of leukemia in 2006 at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.

Born in Trenton, he was a graduate of Notre Dame High School. He received his associate’s degree from Mercer Community College and his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Seton Hall University. He lived in the Princeton Junction area of West Windsor for the last nine years of his life.

Hillman was a sheriff cadet of Somerset County, served at Mercer County Corrections Service, and served with the Department of Human Services. He was appointed a patrolman in West Windsor Township in 1989, promoted to sergeant in 1999, and promoted to lieutenant in January, 2005.

He was a member and past president of PBA Local 271, a volunteer at the Special Olympics, and a law enforcement volunteer at the Salt Lake City Olympics. He was a member the Louisiana Emergency Deployment Team during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

Lieutenant Hillman was a respected member of the police department and the community. “We’re still looking for golfers for this worthwhile event to Benefit Special Olympics New Jersey while we remember our brother officer, Keith J. Hillman, who succumbed to leukemia on July 5, 2006,” says Detective Jason Jones, president of West Windsor PBA 271.
