Burlington County College culinary arts students took home the top prize in the Food Bank of South Jersey’s Food Bank Hunger Games Feb. 27.

This was the organization’s first Food Bank Hunger Games — a cooking competition and fundraiser that benefited food-insecure families in South Jersey.

Six teams received identical boxes of food normally distributed by the Food Bank of South Jersey and were challenged to create a tasty and nutritious meal from the ingredients. Each team’s chef mentor worked to help secure sponsors from the audience for additional ingredients. After an hour, a panel of judges reviewed each team’s dish.

BCC’s students came out on top with their chicken satay served on a bed of rice and vegetables, with a side of French toast points and apples. They were presented with a trophy at the Food Bank of South Jersey’s headquarters in Pennsauken.
