The Delaware & Raritan Canal Watch is set to hold a light rail tour of the canal between Bordentown and Trenton on April 12.

The NJ Transit River Line route follows the path of the D&R Canal from Crosswicks Creek to Trenton. Participants will see the abandoned canal, Watson’s Creek and the Abbott Marshlands.

In the city of Trenton, where Route 129 is on the former path of the canal, remnants of the industrial and commercial buildings that lined the canal will bee be observed and compared with early photos.

After returning to Bordentown there will be an opportunity for a short walk to Bordentown Beach for a better view of Crosswicks Creek and the canal’s Lock 1.

Participants should meet at 9:15 a.m. at the River Line Bordentown station located at 100 West Parkk Street for a brief introductory talk before boarding the train to Trenton.

Two-hour tickets are $1.50.

Pre-registration strongly advised.
