CONTACT to hold course for training volunteers

Starting May 20, CONTACT of Mercer county is set to offer a free training course for prospective volunteers.

CONTACT is a non-profit with the mission of providing compassionate, confidential telephone listening and referral services giving hope and reassurance to people in crisis.

The class teaches compassionate listening skills, telephone crisis intervention, suicide prevention and more.

Representatives from community programs are speakers on a variety of topics.

The course will meet May 20, May 21, May 27, May 28, June 3 and June 4 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The course is free with the understanding that the trainee must volunteer 100 hours within one year of completing the course. For those who wish to take the training for personal growth, without the obligation to volunteer, the fee for the course is $150.

It will take place at Pennington United Methodist Church located at 60 South Main Street in Pennington.
