The Washington Crossing Open Air Theatre’s 2014 season is set to open with West Side Story.

West Side Story tells the tragic love story between lead characters Maria and Tony, each from different neighborhoods in New York City. The strength of their love cannot overcome the hatred between warring street gangs the Sharks and the Jets. The Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim score features classics such as Something’s Coming, Tonight, America, I Feel Pretty, and Somewhere.

In the roles of Tony and Maria are Mike Nappi and Angelica Staikos. Open Air audiences saw Nappi as Moritz and Staikos as Wendla in the 2012 production of Spring Awakening. Additionally, Nappi played the Scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz.

The cast also includes Open Air Theatre favorites Jordan Brennan as Bernardo, Jill Palena as Anita and Kyle McClellan as Riff.

Performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. May 30, 31, June 1, 6, 7 and 8 at Washington Crossing State Park, 355 Washington Crossing-Pennington Road, Titusville.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children age 12 and under.
