“Pirates” are set to compete for a $1,000 prize in the third annual Trenton Thunder Charities Treasure Hunt.

The Treasure Hunt will send participating teams of two to four people on excursions throughout Mercer, Burlington and Bucks counties as they hunt for items that need to be collected, places that need to be visited and tasks to be completed.

Items on the Treasure List will have different point values; teams must strategize as they choose where to go and what to focus on. The use of a vehicle and smartphone are essential to competing and must be supplied by the participants.

The hunt is set to conclude with a reception in the picnic area at Arm & Hammer Park during a Trenton Thunder game versus the Reading Fightin Phils set to begin at 7:05 p.m. The game features post-game 3D fireworks presented by eyecare.org.

There is a $1,000 cash prize for the team that tallies the most points during the hunt. All participants are set to receive a Trenton Thunder Treasure Hunt T-shirt and a ticket to the August 30 game with picnic buffet.

The hunt is scheduled for Aug. 30, check in is set to begin at 12 p.m. and the teams depart for the hunt at 1pm.

The cost to participate is a $25 per person. Registration is on the Trenton Thunder website or by phone, (609) 394-3300, extension 180.

Funds raised from the event support the Trenton Thunder Charities 2014 Community Grant Program.
