Bridge maintenance on I-95 and I-295 to begin in Mercer County

N.J. Department of Transportation is set to start a bridge maintenance project on 25 bridge and ramp structures along interstates 95 and 295 through Mercer County.

Maintenance contractor, Nagi Construction Co., is scheduled to begin repair work at the Independence Avenue bridge over I-295 in Hamilton the week of Sept. 24, with operations progressing eastward.

Temporary single lane closures are set for overnight and off-peak hours at each location and shoulder closures will be allowed at any time.

All lanes are set to be maintained on the interstates during peak period commuting hours. Work will not take place on more than two bridges concurrently. All work is weather dependent.

The project is designed to extend the service life of the bridges. Different levels of maintenance work is planned for each location, including deck patching, joint repairs, header reconstruction, crack repairs and the application of a corrosion inhibitor.

Work will be performed on abutment walls and piers at certain locations as well.

The more than $1.8 million project is scheduled to be completed fall 2014.
