Mercer Rowing Club compete in Boston

Princeton National Rowing Association’s Mercer Rowing Club competed in the Head of the Charles regatta in Boston Oct. 20.

Since its origin in 1965, the Head Of The Charles Regatta has welcomed crew teams to the banks of the Charles River in the Boston area for a two-day rowing competition.

The youth men’s 8+ finished the 5,000 meter race 11th out of 85 boats, with a time of 16:08:2. With a finish in the top half of the field, the team qualified for a return to next year’s Head of the Charles. Their finish time was less than a minute behind first place winner Marin Rowing Association from northern California.

The team team includes: Sean Kelly from West Windsor-Plainsboro High School South, Finn Ludwig from WW-PHS North, Aaron Goodman, Tom Walker, Elias Abiliehera and Brad Mills from Princeton HS, Conner Ilchert from Lawrence HS, Ron Haines from Hamilton West HS and coxswain Matthew Perez from Robbinsville HS.

The youth women’s 8+ boat also finished 11th out of 85 boats, less than a minute behind Oakland Strokes of northern California. They are guaranteed a return next year.

The boat lineup includes: Rachel Calabro and Haley Bork from RHS, Rena White, Christie Samios and Beatrice Sclapari from PHS, Kate Hickey from Notre Dame HS, Katie Sessa from Mount Saint Mary Academy, Watchung, Alex Natale from The Hun School, and coxswain Noa Rothstein from Council Rock HS.

The Mercer Youth Men’s 4+ boat finished 30th out of 85 boats, also guaranteeing a return next year.

Two Mercer Masters boats also made the trip. The 40+ year old men’s 4+ finished 18th and the 50+ year old women’s 8+ finished in 20th place.
