Notre Dame High School student to perform Once On This Island May 2-4

Notre Dame High School students are set to present Once on This Island May 2 through 4 in the school’s Backstage Theater.

Once on This Island, written by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, is based on the novel My Love, My Love, by Rosa Guy.

The musical is set on an island in the Caribbean’s French Antilles and tells the story of Ti Moune, a peasant girl who rescues and falls in love with Daniel, a wealthy boy from the other side of the island. When Daniel is returned to his people, the gods who rule the island guide Ti Moune on a quest to test the strength of her love against the powerful forces of prejudice, hatred and death.

Once on this island is directed by Diane Wargo of Ewing.

Musical direction is by Steven Ryan of New Hope, Pa. and choreography is by Chelsea Wargo of Ewing.

Performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. May 2 through 4 and a matinee at 3 p.m. May 4.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students and senior citizens. They can be purchased at the reception booth, during school hours and by calling 609-882-7900.

Notre Dame High School is located at 601 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville.
