After 117 of serving elderly women, the Home for Aged Women of Burlington County is set to close

The Home for Aged Women is a nonprofit organization that provides safe and affordable housing for elderly women of modest means.

President of the Board, Grace Shultz, said the recession of 2008 resulted in a sizable reduction in the value of the home’s endowment, which is used for its operational expenses.

Along with the endowment, the home has also seen a decrease in donations.

Despite efforts to save the home, the Board of Managers agreed seeking grants from companies and foundations or transferring the home to a different organization will not provide long-term support.

The board set a deadline of Dec. 31 to close the home.
