The Sourland Planning Council is set to host the Summer 2013 Train Station Series at the Hopewell Train Station starting June 28.

Free programs are scheduled for 7 to 9 p.m. at the train station on Railroad Place. Events are first come, first seated; doors open at 6:45 p.m.

Sourlands Perspectives: History, Geology and on Two Wheels is set for June 28. SPC trustee and former president Andrea Bonette is set to present a slideshow of Sourlands geology and history. SPC trustee Michael Heffler is set to read from his book, Climbing Through Life, and sign copies.

Open Space Map of the Sourlands is set for August 2. This event features the unveiling of a newly created Open Space Map of the Sourland region that shows the preservation status of all land parcels. The map was created to enable SPC and various land trusts to see the big picture when setting priorities and considering properties for land preservation.

SPC is set to screen The Central Park Effect on August 15, which features wildlife footage from New York City’s Central Park.

Native Landscapes and Deer is set for August 22. SPC trustee and Plant Stewardship Index Coordinator at Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve, Jared Rosenbaum, is set to discuss how overabundant deer harm native plants and wildlife. He will also share which native plants are deer resistant.

A field trip to Swallow Hill Alpaca Farm is set for Sept. 15. The trip features a tour of Pat and John Flanagan’s hillside farm and a look at the spinning and weaving alpaca fur.

Rather than meeting at the train station, this event is scheduled to meet at 2 p.m. at Swallow Hill Farm, 583 Montgomery Road, Hillsborough.
