A Hamilton resident on the Rowan University softball team earned academic honors from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

Rowan University junior Samantha Liedtka and nine other players were named NFCA All-America Scholar Athletes. The award is given to players submitted by a member coach who achieved a 3.50 grade point average or higher during the 2011 to 2012 academic year.

This was the second year Liedtka, the team’s pitcher, received the honor. She was also a NJAC All-Academic honorable mention and a Rowan Scholar-Athlete. Liedtka was inducted into the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society in 2012.

Liedtka is majoring in elementary education and history.

Rowan was one of over 600 schools represented among the 2012 NFCA All-America Scholar-Athletes. The softball team had a collective GPA of 3.28, 56th among the 90 schools that were chosen in Division III.
