What Happened To 2% Budget Cap?

So much for Governor Christie’s 2 percent cap, if I’m understanding the proposed budget presentation on WWP school website correctly. I live in Walker Gordon, my house is assessed at $603,100 My current school tax at the $1.548 per $100 is $9,335.99.

The proposed budget at $1.624 per $100 would make it $9,794.34. That’s a $458.35 increase or a 4.91 percent increase in taxes! Why are they saying its only a 2.49 percent increase?

They’re not presenting a true picture to people. I suspect it has to do with the assessed values falling in both towns. So WWP Schools should have adjusted the budget presentation to show the true picture.

“For the owner of the average assessed home of $389,000 in Plainsboro, the school tax bill would be $6,317, up from the $6,119 the owner of a home at $395,000 paid last year.”

This statement is skewed. It gives the impression that the tax is only going up $200 but in reality (the town does not change assessed values yearly) that same home owner would be paying closer to $300 next year, almost a 5 percent increase in Plainsboro.
