Both Plainsboro and West Windsor Townships will hold annual reorganization meetings on Tuesday, January 3, as Monday, January 2 will be observed as a holiday for New Year’s.

The West Windsor Council meeting will be preceded by the inauguration ceremony for its two new council members, Kristina Samonte and Bryan Maher, starting at 6 pm at the municipal building. At 7 p.m. the council will start its business session.

A new resolution to be adopted at the January 3 meeting would eliminate agenda sessions one week prior to the council’s scheduled business sessions. According to Township Clerk Sharon Young, council will meet once every two weeks for its regular business session and set aside an extra part of the meeting for “discussion” at the conclusion of resolutions, mayoral and administration’s comments or recommendations and council member’s comments. After the discussion period the second opportunity for public comments will be held before the meeting is adjourned.

Also in West Windsor, the first planning board meeting of 2012 will be held one day later on Wednesday, January 4 at 7 p.m. Among the items to be discussed is a minor site plan application for a new exterior entrance, facade and signage where Qdoba Mexican Grill plans to open on the south side of the MarketFair Mall, 3535 Route 1.

The following night, Thursday, January 5, the West Windsor Zoning Board of Appeals will meet at 7:30 p.m. to hold a second hearing on the proposed reconstruction of 248 North Post Road, with a revised design after the board’s December 1 meeting (WW-P News, December 16).

In Plainsboro, the annual reorganization meeting will begin at 7 p.m. and will include the following items:

– appointments of township officials

– mayoral appointments to boards and committees, including the human relations council and the shade tree committee

– adoption of a temporary budget

– appropriating the 2012 debt service

– establishing change funds

– authorizing tax sales

– establishing recreation fees

– re-establishing petty cash accounts

– appointing and emergency management council

Additional dates for the Plainsboro Township Committee meetings throughout 2012 will be determined at the January 3 reorganization meeting. An agenda session has been tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, January 11, at 7:30 p.m.
