Alexa Montoya, a Junior Girl Scout in Troop 1614, and a fifth grade student at Millstone River, recently completed her Bronze Award. She baked birthday cakes for the patrons of the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen after taking two baking courses and earning badges, “Piece of Cake” and “Lets Get Cooking.” When she and her mother and leader, Alpa Montoya, discovered that there was a need for volunteers for the TASK annual Halloween Party, she baked and decorated more than 50 cupcakes for the party.##M:[more]##

“The Bronze Award is a unique opportunity for girls to commit to a long term project,” says Alpa Montoya. “By doing this, the girls learn to work towards a goal and learn the value of service in a activity that spans months, instead of a few hours.”
