The High School North tennis team has advanced, for the first time, to the Central Jersey, Group III finals with its defeat of Ocean Township, 3-2, on May 14.##M:[more]##

While Tim Wu was defeated at first singles, Brandon Frank fought his way to victory in three sets at second singles, 4-6, 7-6 (9-7), 6-2. At third singles, Evan Samet won 7-5, 6-4. And at second doubles, Jun Yoshitake and Abishy Pandita won, 6-3, 6-1.

Next up? The finals on Tuesday, May 19. Time and location not yet available.

Meanwhile, at South, the girls’ softball team also had a first in its 35 years of existence as a program — a Mercer County Title. The team defeated Allentown, 7-1, on May 14.

Liz Chudzik pitched a three-hitter and struck out 13 batters. She also stranded 13 Allentown runners.

At bat, the Pirates got their power from senior shortstop Liz Huttner, who had two hits, two walks, and scored twice; Kat Philbin, who belted an RBI double; and Jo Schutzer, who had two hits and three RBIs. Also coming up strong for the Pirates were Alyssa Kelman who had two hits, and Chudzik who hit a double and finished with two RBIs.
